See the nanoworld:

Imaging and Spectroscopy @ 10nm spatial resolution

Dr. Miriam Böhmler, Neaspec GmbH, Munich, Germany

Neaspec’s near-field optical microscopy systems (NeaSNOM) allow overcoming the diffraction limit of light, enabling optical measurements at a spatial resolution of 10nm not only at visible frequencies but also in the infrared or terahertz spectral range.

This novel technique combines the best of two worlds, first the high spatial resolution of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and second the analytical power of infrared spectroscopy. The optical investigation of nanostructures and materials with a spatial resolution of about 10nm of our unique NeaSNOM microscope opens a new era for modern nano-analytical applications such as chemical identification, free-carrier profiling and plasmonic vector near-field mapping.

In this presentation I will introduce the basic ideas of sSNOM (scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy), the realization in our NeaSNOM systems, and further present several applications from a variety of scientific research fields.
